It was a miracle shot at the buzzer made from three-quarters down the court. Everett Community College player Henry Ihrig threw up the prayer on Jan. 18, beating Shoreline Community College with a final score of 75-72.
In the tense last minutes of the match in Everett, both schools were knotted with a 72-72 score. The unexpected throw by Ihrig won the game for the Everett Clippers. Fans were astounded as the player made a 70-foot throw; the ball bounced off the backboard and swooshed right into the net.
Roars filled the gym hall after the jaw-dropping shot. Ihrig’s third three-pointer of the game brought his total to 13 points for the night. Everett Community College’s top scorer was Jailin Johnson with 18 points. Together, both teams made 17 out of 39 attempts from beyond the arc.
“During regular season we would have 2 practices to prepare for the next game. Which would include film session, practice and a little bit of weight room to keep their strength and endurance up to par,” replied Dennis Harrison, Coach of SCC’s Women Basketball Team regarding the male dolphins’ preparation prior the game.
Despite their loss, the Shoreline Dolphins continued their season against Bellevue College on Jan. 22.
