New Shoreline College logo announced on Jan 10. after the voting had ended Dec. 17 last quarter. This change is necessary the College is no longer Shoreline Community College and needs to update its branding to match. The options consisted of one with a single green wave under the college’s name; another with a single tree with a wave that goes under the name and the tree; and lastly a hexagon with a forest, waves, and a mountain in the background to the side of the text.
The Adjunct Professor of Advanced Manufacturing, Todd Smith, had this to say about the logos, “The one without an image was too stark, too boring [referring to the one with the waves]. The one with a hex around it…created a visual line…separating image from concept. The one that was chosen has two distinct ideas with the flow between creating a cohesive thought.” He thought that the logo that was chosen was a great logo for Shoreline College.
Addison Brueck, a student in the Advanced manufacturing course said this about Shoreline’s choice of logo, “The tree is stupid. The one with the trees inside of the shape was better.” When asked if he had voted he had this to say, “I didn’t know we were doing that.” Many of the students that I spoke to had been unaware of the Logo vote.
A student studying the Japanese language, Ashe Auchincloss, said this about their thoughts on the new Shoreline logo, “I don’t like it…I don’t like that it’s one tree. It feels really lopsided. I just think it’s ugly.” They had voted on the hexagon logo design.
The Teachers Assistant for the Advanced Manufacturing course, Dalton Baer, had this to say about which of the logos he preferred, “I like the tree because there’s trees around here and the picture of the trees and the hexagon is too corporate.” When asked if he voted, he said, “Hell no.”
Another student in the Japanese course said this about the chosen logo, “It’s a little boring.”
The hexagon logo had quite a few supporters, but the lone pine logo won the popular vote and is here to stay.
