Board Games Around the World was an event held on Nov. 19 from 2 to 4 pm in the PUB Quiet Dining room, and was one of the events for the International Student Leaders (ISL) week at Shoreline Community College. Andy Lu said that he is focusing on Mahjong, a Chinese game as he is the president of the Mahjong club, and wants to teach people how to play. There were a good variety of games at the event including Chinese Checkers and Mancala. Lu says he prefers to play in groups and competitive games rather than cooperative (co-op) games.

Yuenyuen Chu, originally from Hong Kong, was walking past the PUB Quiet room and decided to check out the event. She said that she was eager to learn how to play Mahjong. Chu enjoys playing Sudoku online, as she has a preference for playing games solo and when playing in groups prefers competitive games over co-op.

Wynn Theresa tried her hand at playing Go, an ancient strategy game that originated in China. It is a game that is often compared to chess, though it is quite a bit older. As an ISL leader, Theresa was one of those who organized the event. She mentioned that she doesn’t know how to play many games, but enjoys co-op card games.
