We at the Ebbtide investigated several restaurants surrounding Shoreline Community College (SCC) for their quality, price range, and dining experience as prompted by our faculty advisor, Jim Davis. He thought that we should take it easy in our last edition to be published for the quarter.
Students stick to affordable foods, with common examples being instant-ramen and egg-fried rice. To avoid burnout, it is important to change things up every once in a while, including your eating habits; people eat about three times every day. When even eating is a slog, studying gets that much worse. That’s why we’d recommend you budget to eat out every once in a while, especially after long study sessions.
The cuisines we encountered near SCC were Mediterranean, Japanese, Korean, Asian-fusion, fast-casual American, and Mexican. All of these restaurants have a relatively reasonable price range at around 20 dollars after tax. Eating out is a fun way to celebrate the end of exam season.

Within the Safeway Plaza near campus — little over a mile away — lies this delicious, all-in-one restaurant, grocery store, bakery and charcuterie. The restaurant has a sit-in dining area walled off from the grocery store by a series of archways. The decor was tasteful, and the building was meticulously cleaned. I ordered a gyro salad for $15.49 (before tax), and the food was on my table within only five minutes. The salad balanced its crisp pickles, mellow feta, and gyros in a refreshing and flavorful experience. The salad was very fresh and generously portioned.

Kizuki is a ramen chain that serves both ramen and rice dishes and has a lot of locations around Seattle. The one I am reviewing is located south of campus in Northgate. It has an amazing interior and staff alongside tasty ramen. You may find the cost relatively expensive, but the portion is big enough to fulfill your appetite.

This cafe sells Asian fusion food. While it’s called a cafe, many people order and eat the food. Their signature dishes are their popcorn chicken and drinks. The dish I ate was the gyudon beef ball, and everyone liked it. I often go there and try other menus, but they are all delicious. This cafe is often visited by SCC students during exam periods.

Wonton Noodle House is a must try for any Asian food enjoyers. From the very savory fried rice, to the sweet and delicate jellyfish, to the delicious wonton noodle soup, every dish I’ve ever had here has hit the spot! If I have to select a specific dish for curious students, I would recommend the Chicken and Salted Fish Fried Rice.

If you are in need of a creamy, spicy meal, this menu is the best to satisfy that craving. Sorimmara offers a variety of different Mala menus, from original Mala to flavours like Jjajang. This spot is perfect for combo meals, as you can pick anything you want and put it in a bowl; they’ll calculate the price according to the weight. My favorites are the beef and fish balls — they are amazing. I love to add extra ramen in my meal to give it that creamy pasta feel.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Shoreline area. The food is delicious, and the service is friendly. I think it’s a place where you can enjoy good food and a variety of meat and vegetables at reasonable prices. They have both Korean and Japanese food. I ordered what’s called a daily plate for $18.75 including tax; you can enjoy chicken teriyaki, fried dumplings, fried shrimp, rice, and salad.

This is a great spot for a quick, tasty meal. The service is super fast, and the staff are really nice. The food’s really good — flavorful but not too greasy — and you can grab it to go if you’re in a hurry. It’s also a chill, super clean place to hang out with friends. They’ve got more than just chicken and fries with lots of chicken sandwich options too. You can get three tenders and a shake for around $15. Definitely worth checking out!

Taqueria El Sabor

The glow of this quaint, vibrantly orange casa lighthouses a delicious retreat on the historical Aurora Ave. Their menu aims to entice with each and every staple of Mexican cuisine: burritos, tacos, chimichangas, quesadillas, enchiladas—you name it. I ordered their chipotle enchiladas with pollo for takeout and paid $17.74 (post-tax and a 15% tip). I often crave the savory trifecta of cream, tomato, and spice that informs Mexican cuisine, and I was so tenderly sated by this warm meal handed to me by a friendly face.
