ASG in Review – Vol 54 Issue 5, November 30, 2018

Krystelle Kurz

The Associated Student Government (ASG) typically holds meetings from 3-5 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month. Students may attend if they would like to meet their representatives or voice an issue. In addition, students may meet with their representatives in the Student Life Office on the third floor of the PUB on most weekdays. The meetings are normally held in the Boardroom of the 1000 Building. This was the last meeting of the fall quarter.

Young Traders Club

Shortly after the recognition of the Young Traders Club, ASG’s Club Affairs Officer Eneya Kwesele received an email from the club advisor and some of its members that the club will not be continuing.

SCC Volleyball

SCC’s Volleyball Team recently played in the 2018 NWAC Volleyball Championship. They traveled down to Tacoma for the All-Star game and the championship banquet. The amount requested covers all expenses for SCC’s volleyball team to attend the playoffs.

The requested amount was used to cover hotels, meals and transportation for the athletes. There were also additional expenses such as T-shirts for the tournament as well as the mandatory volleyball banquet, though these will be covered through volleyball’s general budget.

Requested: $2,402.63

Granted: $2,402.63

Vocal Association

The Vocal Association is holding their annual singing competition in between fall and winter quarter. The final competition show will be open to all SCC students. They are expecting 60-70 people and 15 competitors to attend this event.

The money requested will be used to cater the second audition and the final competition as well for $100, $75 and $50 for Amazon gift cards for the top three winners and two $10 gift cards for the “Creativity Award” and the “Popularity Award.” They will also hand out five $5 gift cards to audience members through a raffle.

ASG members thought the gift card prizes were too high, so they suggested to decrease the prize to $75, $50 and $25 for the top three winners and remove the audience prizes of $5 gift cards.

Requested: $857.17

Granted: $657.17

CEO Community Club

The CEO Community Club wants to throw an end of the quarter party to celebrate the achievements of their members. The budget requested will be used to cover the costs of pizza, cookies, juice boxes and utensils.

New Club Packet

The ASG Club Affairs Officer, Eneya Kwesele, has made updates to the Club Constitution. It now provides a Club Constitution Cheat Sheet to make it easier for students to fill out the paperwork.

The first four pages of the constitution have been removed. Those pages contained general information that students can now access on a separate PDF link. Much of the information in the constitution has been simplified as well.
