ASG in Review – Vol 53 Issue 9, March 2, 2018

The Associated Student Government (ASG) typically holds meetings from 3-5 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month. This meeting was on Feb. 26 in the Boardroom of the 1000 Building. Students may attend if they would like to meet their representatives or voice an issue. In addition, students may meet with their representatives in the Student Life Office on the third floor of the PUB on most weekdays.

The next meeting, originally scheduled for March 5, was canceled, so the next one will be held on March 19.


[Gaming Club]

A new club got recognized, this one dedicated to playing card and board games so students can relax and take a “respite from their daily life.” Skyler Trigg of the Gaming Club talked about having trouble finding a place on campus where his merry band of gamers could play without getting kicked out.

According to Trigg, at least 10 students have been showing up to each meeting, and they have been subsisting off both games brought by members and a trove of older ones left over by the various gaming clubs SCC has had in the past.

ASG President Yorin Anggari suggested they invite other clubs into the fold, potentially combining events.

The Gaming Club received recognition unanimously.

Mini Grants


The Shoreline Community College Association of Nursing Students (SCCANS) requested $220 to cover its winter graduation and pinning ceremony. Upwards of 30 students will be awarded ribbons for their completion of the program.

SCCANS Treasurer Terri Swensen presented the items list, which mostly covered food from Costco and Lancer Catering. The ASG approved the request.

A substantial cohort of DECA members came to the meeting to present a request for $14,853 to attend the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC). Sixteen students and two teachers are flying to Washington, D.C. to attend the conference from April 11-14 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.

All members going to D.C. qualified in the Pacific Northwest Career Development Conference in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, last month. Students often have to pay from $290-490 out of their own pockets for food, appropriate attire and the trip to Idaho. The mini grant request was for airfare, ground transportation, hotel rooms (it is mandatory to stay in the hotel hosting the conference) and the registration fees.

After some deliberation concerning potential fundraising, the total amount of $14,853 was granted.

The ASG voted to cancel their next meeting due to it falling on the last week of school, right before finals.
