ASG in Review: April 26, 2021

The Associated Student Government holds board meetings via Zoom every other Monday. Students are welcome to join and voice concerns or speak to their representatives. The latest meeting was held April 26.

New Business

Mini Grants

Budget and Finance Officer Nathan Sidik began the meeting by giving ASG’s mini grant report: $7,000 out of $25,000 of the budget remains for the quarter.

DECA Competition Funds

DECA is a non-profit organization that provides students with opportunities to cultivate skills in fields such as marketing, finance, hospitality and administration.

Five SCC students recently competed in the 2021 DECA International Career Development Conference, with three students emerging victorious. Club advisor Cynthia Grace requested funds to cover competition entry fees. ASG approved the full amount of $275.

Spindrift Journal 2021

Spindrift is a student-run art and literary journal that has encouraged and promoted the artistic expression of students and faculty since 1966. A print edition of the journal will be available early June with a limited run of 200 copies.

Spindrift managing editor Tim Holsopple and faculty advisor Chuck Schultz requested funds for the print edition. ASG approved the full amount of $4206.90.

Nominee Approvals

Appointment Review Committees

Appointment Review Committees are student panels that review professors seeking a tenured position. The panels are assembled by faculty, and the ASG is tasked with approving the faculty’s nominees. This week, the ASG unanimously voted to appoint ARC nominee Maral Atayeva.

The next ASG meeting is scheduled for May 10.
