Shoreline Community College has incredible leaders, clubs, individuals, and associations who each work hard to engage with students and staff alike. But with so many great leaders, there are bound to be those who are better than others in certain aspects.
Presenting the SCC Student Leadership Awards of 2024!
This year’s awards show was held in late May, and was dedicated to giving recognition to these dedicated students and staff who make our campus a livelier place. The winners of these awards ranged from an Unsung Hero, to Cultural Ambassadors, to the Best Club Leader, and even the Most Active Club, there was no shortage of awards given out to these incredible people and groups.
One of the awards given out during the Student Leadership Awards was the Club of the Year award, which was given out to the club that has had the most positive influence. The winner of Club of the Year was the Hong Kong Student Association. The HKSA has hosted many events, such as a visit to Bruce Lee’s Tomb, Bi-Weekly Mahjong Nights, and most recently, a BBQ Party at Richmond Beach. The President, Jason Cheung, feels especially proud about this achievement because, “I would say I’m proud of my club because we started all the way from nothing.”
Another award that was given out was the Outstanding Collaboration Award, which was handed out to the club that does the most collaborative work with other clubs or associations. This award was given to the Center of Education and Career Opportunities club. The CECO club has been working with the Benefits Hub since winter, helping them do clothing drives for others in need. When asked about how she felt, Program Support Supervisor Caela Smith responded by saying “It was really exciting for the students and I felt extremely proud of the Club.”
Many other awards were handed out to individuals. The award was for School Spirit was given to The Ebbtide Arts and Entertainment Editor Cheryl Amelia for her spirit boosting. When asked about how she felt upon receiving the award, she stated that she felt really honored and was pleasantly surprised that her actions around campus is given this wonderful recognition.
In total, there are 13 different categories of awards which were handed out throughout the event to 13 different winners.
