Jazz Improv Concert

SCC music faculty member Steve Kim will be directing a free concert featuring SCC jazz improvisation students. The live band will be playing keyboard, bass, drums, guitar and different sets of horned instruments. Surprise: It’s free. Another surprise: There might be a vocalist or two.
Express Yourself Showcase
8:00-10:00 p.m., Feb.22; Darrell’s Tavern
SCC will be featuring even more of their musically talented students at Darrell’s Tavern. Rappers, DJs, singers and instrumentalists will perform their original works of varying styles. It’s free entertainment for the ears, though you must be 21+ to enter the bar. Sorry, minors!
Opera Workshop 2018

This year’s 2018 Opera Workshop will feature Bruce Monroe’s “Command Performance,” a story of an aristocrat who absolutely hates opera but is surrounded by loud singing. Bern Herbolsheimer’s “The Quartet” and John Latouche’s “The Golden Apple” will also be performed. SCC’s musical directors Lee Ann Hittenberger and Bryar Golden will be directing the three productions. SCC students can attend for $12, while general admission is $20. “Laramie Project” Preview
7:30-9:00 p.m., Mar. 7; 1600 Building (on campus)
Before finals begin, SCC’s theater company will be showing a preview of the new winter play, “The Laramie Project.” Professional actress and SCC theater professor Debra Pralle will be directing the new production. “The Laramie Project” is based on the real events surrounding the death of openly gay university student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. In the play, residents of Laramie are explored, thus the “Laramie Project,” as they offer their take on what has happened. Seats are free for everyone, SCC student or not, and will allow a peek into the show right before opening night..
New Play Festival: Call For Scripts

The annual SCC Spring New Play Festival will now be accepting submissions until March 1. The festival will run during the first week of June. Any students in the drama program will be able to earn five credits if they take Drama 235 or Drama 255. Class and rehearsal times will be 3:30-5:50 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
