Flash Fiction Writing Contest

Nov. 1-30

Love to write? You’re in luck: The theme of this year’s writing contest is up to you. Tell your own fiction story in 750 words or less to win the grand prize: a $20 gift card to Third Place Books, or the second place award, a $10 voucher for SCC’s bookstore. Student Afternoon Recital

The first recital of the year sees SCC’s hardworking music students performing a variety of pieces that they’ve practiced through private lessons. At this free afternoon showcase, drop by the music building to show your support and be serenaded at the same time.

The Art of Authoring a Children’s Story

5:30-6:30 p.m., Nov. 27; SCC Library (Rm. 4202)

When you think of writing as a career, you may forget about the profession of writing children’s books. At this free workshop, you can learn how to write, draw, promote and self-publish your own work in the genre. Visual communications graduate and actual children’s book author Nicholas Falk is here to give you advice from the pros. As always, remember to bring a pencil and paper or laptop.

Small Ensemble Recital

Treat your ears to the sounds of SCC’s small ensemble recital in this free showcase set for Dec. 6. At this performance, music students who have spent the quarter preparing their hard work will have the chance to shine — and you get to hear the result. 

Fall Choir Concert

SCC’s Chamber Chorale and Shoreline Singers are ringing in a new season of concerts with the theme “I Arise.” Featuring uplifting themes of joining together as one, this showcase will feature tunes that range in mood from ominous to optimistic.
