The Workforce Education has been a part of Shoreline since the early 90s helping students, old and new alike. There are plenty of things that the Workforce Education can help students with — depending on the student’s needs. If a student needs assistance finding a job, the Workforce education can help. Need a bit of assistance to fund your tuition fees? Well, the Workforce education can also assist students with that. What about more minor issues such as parking permits, or daycare for kids if you have kids? Indeed the Workforce Education can help with those and so much more.
The Workforce Education has proven its many uses, but how does the workforce education work one may ask? In summary, if a student needs any help, they can go to the workforce education and get help from a certain department to help according to said student’s needs. Students should not hesitate to get help with what they need as all the staff members are extremely friendly and welcoming. Additionally, According to Michael Boehm, “I would say that we help fulfill the college’s mission for DEI,” which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The evidence is that it’s working, as an average of 250 to 450 students per quarter come to the workforce education to get help with financial issues, counseling, or just support with daily tasks.
One student to represent this is Ruth Eloka, who is a mom of three and is planning to take a nursing program, but she isn’t sure how to start. Because of that, she went to the workforce education committee to get a start and help with supplies, and resources such as books and even housing.
“Go and talk to any workforce staff, because Shoreline Community College has so many resources to help, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
Eloka is far from the only one, as another student, Danielle also received aid from the Workforce Education. Danielle essentially started over on her education and went to the Workforce for help. Once she went to the Workforce, the Workforce helped her with funding, taking care of her three kids, and finding an internship. Because of that, she is grateful for the Workforce’s help, and when asked if she has any advice for future students, she says, “ask for help because they’re there to answer any questions or any concerns that you have.”
Another question that does get asked a lot is if students can help the workforce education by working there, and anyone who would be asking this question will be glad to hear that the answer is a resounding yes! Although positions are limited, workforce students can apply to become staff members to help other students.
In short, the workforce education can help students with many things related to education, funding, jobs, or even personal matters. Students should always resort to the Workforce Education to get the best help possible. There is no need to be afraid to ask because as said before, the Workforce Education’s goal is to enforce the college’s goal of DEI. So any students of any background are welcome to get help according to their needs.
