Through the Lens: Documentary Photography is an on-campus exhibit in the Admin Building (1000) that displays many photographs made by students of instructor Lauren Greathouse. In her course Documentary 246, students have the entire quarter to find and collaborate with a non-profit organization of their choosing within the Seattle area, ultimately expressing both the artistic student and the partnered agency through a display of curated photographs.
The goal is to highlight the amazing work made by students and bring non-profit organizations to light. The event is set up by Zachary Mazur, who helps students and professors organize a myriad of events like this one.
One of the many organizations represented in this year’s exhibit was Puget Soundkeepers Alliance, photographed by Ian Bray. During the event, Bray and many others went around heapus village, cleaning up trash around and even in the lake via kayaking. According to Bray, the organization managed to clear 573 pounds of trash in the span of 4 hours, an incredible achievement for the environment.
Another great photo shoot was done by Taylor Ott for the Music Center of the Northwest. The Music Center of the Northwest ignites musical passions within people young and old alike. Ott participated in these events and captured moments from them.
