Unfinished business brought Senator Patty Murray back to Shoreline College, where she taught a parenting class on campus in our own Parent Child Center. Sen. Murray appeared without fanfare last Friday afternoon to speak with parents and faculty about the importance of child care, parent support, and early-childhood education.
Her return to the center she once taught at intended to highlight the Child Care Stabilization Act. The bill, working its way through a Congress embroiled in partisan deadlock over spending and national debt, would restore funding to 22,000 child-care providers, supporting ten million children nationwide.
“This is an urgent economic priority at every level,” Senator Murray announced when the bill was introduced into committee in September of this year. “Child care is what allows parents to go to work, businesses to hire workers, and it’s an investment in our kids’ futures. The child care industry holds up every sector of our economy—and Congress must act now.”
Director of the Parent Child Center, Junaid Haq, remarked during her visit, “It was great to have Senator Murray here today, because she understands the importance of childcare and that it should be accessible in every community.”
Shoreline College’s Parent Child Center is a fully-licensed child care provider, delivering high quality child care to Shoreline College students and faculty. It’s a model of progressive support for families that Senator Murray hopes to deliver for the whole country.
