Volleyball, a popular sport, and Picnics, a popular activity especially if the weather is fair. Combine the two, and you have a solid plan for a fun evening, which is what SCC’s Taiwanese Student Association did.
Hosted at Hamlin Park, the event invited students from all around campus for a fun evening together, bringing students there via SCC’s shuttles. Students could converse with one another all while enjoying snacks and beverages at the park’s picnic shelter where some students laid on top of mats and basked under the warm summer sun.
That being said, food and sunlight weren’t the main reason most students joined the event. After enough students had arrived and enjoyed some good snacks and warm sunlight, the games began. Kai Liao is the head of SCC’s TSA and the main organiser of the event. He encouraged students to partake in volleyball games with one another and engage in competitive yet friendly matches in teams of four to six. The prize for the winning team was a $10 Amazon gift card for every member of said team, which understandably got students relatively excited, as even before the prize announcement, many students were already pumped to play some friendly matches of volleyball.
After most of the food was eaten and most students were exhausted from exciting volleyball matches, the event was concluded with a raffle. Each student was handed a ticket with a number, and the winner was given a variety of prizes, which were wrapped and hidden so the contents were only known by the winners. And on top of this, for students who had participated in previous events hosted by SCC’s TSA, more specifically their Fall 2024 open mic and their Winter 2025 Night Market, and collected two tags from these events, then said students could claim the third one here and students with all three tags could claim a mystery prize. By the end, the students ended up going home with a variety of prizes and a fun memory to remember.
