The Creative Journaling Support Group (CJSG) Club took a break from school to experience the thrill of live baseball, attending the Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays game on May 9, 2025, Friday at T-Mobile Park.
The Creative Journaling Support Group at Shoreline Community College provides students with a safe space to write about stressful events and experiences for one hour each week. Through journaling, members can process challenges, release emotional baggage, and foster personal growth. Open to students who are flexible and eager to learn, this group offers a supportive environment for reflection and healing. However, it is not a therapy session or a psychology course.
“Thanks tonight for your help you really made it fun and exciting for me I don’t go out much and this meant the world to me.” Nelson, one of the attendees said.
The game was an exciting one, with the Mariners losing to the Blue Jays 6-3. The stadium was nearly packed, creating an electric atmosphere as fans filled the seats. Small children cheered enthusiastically for the Mariners, and the energy was especially high as the event was College Night, with students being featured on the big screen.
“I’ve never been to a baseball game before but, I found this was awesome. Even the wait to enter the stadium was interesting. A handful of preachers with big signs were shouting through microphones about sin, hellfire, and Jesus. This was almost entirely drowned out by the sound of a drum solo from a street musician.
“I had a general idea of what baseball was like before watching the game, but the stadium side experience is a lot more chaotic. The way that players through the ball seemed to almost defy physics and whenever their was a lull in the action the screens would demand your attention with a jingle or a gag.” Xander said.
The club secured two rows of section 327, seats 1-10, offering an outstanding view of the entire stadium. Fifteen members from SCC attended, including many international students, each experiencing baseball in their own unique way. The club’s president explained that students were overwhelmingly eager for this event, preferring the excitement of a live game over a traditional journaling session.

“The Baseball event was very fun and enjoyable, there was a great variety of food to eat as you enjoy the game and cheer for your favorite team.” Adrien, one of the attendees said.
The group was also fortunate to see famous baseball players on the field, adding to the excitement.
Among the many traditions witnessed, one standout was the Wave, where different sections stood and raised their hands in a ripple effect throughout the stadium. Another tradition involved fans standing for the last inning, showing their support for the home team until the very end.

Though the Mariners faced a tough loss, the team’s season has been strong overall, and the Creative Journaling Support Group Club enjoyed an unforgettable experience.
If any faculty or staff member is interested in serving as the advisor for the CJSG club, it would be truly appreciated. Having an advisor would help support the CJSG club’s mission and ensure its purpose continues to thrive.
