A Wrinkle in Time teleports to Shoreline Community College’s theater this December. Brought to you by the students from the Theater and Film department. Director Bryar Golden’s vision of “good overcoming evil,” ties deeply into the love of family and offers us a sense of hope for the world.
Golden explains, “It’s an adaptation of… A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. And this book was written in 1962.” It’s a young girl’s journey to find her father, who has been missing for a year: her mother only told her that he had gone on a secret mission.
She, her younger brother, and a new friend go on a fantastic sci-fi fantasy journey with three celestial witches that aid them in conquering the evil presence in the universe.
According to Ebbtide photographer Jeff Shirts, the “visual effects consisting of projections and voiceovers,” effectively illustrated the jumps of time spans in the story.
The next three shows are Dec. 8 and 9 from 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 10 matinee at 3:00 p.m., all of which are at the Theater building on campus. According to Shirts, “the total runtime would be around 120 minutes, with an intermission after the first act. Admission is $5 for students, $10 for seniors/SCC staff, or $12 for general admission.” Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. A full theater encourages the students to give their best performances and it’s also an investment in the futures of the cast and crew.
Golden applauds the efforts of every single member of the cast and crew, particularly Stage Manager Anna Larson and her assistant Ashlyn Gallinger, Set Designer Richard Schaefer, and John Knowles who designed the projections.
This particular story was chosen as it depicts a wonderful journey that inspires students. Golden explains the intention is to “mirror what professional theater does so that they will know… what to expect out there… let them evolve, as learning about acting is not about being perfect, but growing from your mistakes.”
