Is Shoreline becoming the next Hollywood?
Our campus is getting recognized by the film industry. Most recently, the NFL filmed a commercial with both a setting and a face familiar to many Shoreline Community College students.
The commercial entitled “Inspiring Change: Lights,” is part of the NFL’s Inspire Change Campaign, which is a social justice initiative. Filmed on the SCC campus, narrated and starred by Seahawks legend, Bobby Wagner, the commercial spotlights members of the community who encourage the next generation to make a difference by getting an education and using their voices to make change for good.
The campus setting was used to portray an advisor working with and encouraging students. Scenes in the commercial were filmed in both the library and the study rooms. Production brought in professional actors to play the main roles, but they did use film students as extras in the shots.
Tony Doupe, who is a part of the film faculty at SCC, and who aided in the production of this commercial said, “Our program is strongly aligned with a lot of production companies in the Seattle area.” Which is why the NFL chose SCC as their filming location.
“This connection has garnered a strong reputation amongst the Seattle film community.” Doupe said. He also mentioned that SCC’s film program is known for having wonderful students within the program that can help assist with productions.
In addition to this new NFL spotlight, “Our school has recently served as a set location for HBO’s ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls,’ said Suzanne Gugger, the Assistant Director in Education and Events. The series was filmed on the University of Washington and SCC campuses.
While SCC may not necessarily be the new Hollywood, with this increasingly popular reputation we could see bigger films making their way to the campus. One thing’s for sure: we are gaining a valuable reputation and recognition within the film community for our beautiful campus and strong film program.

Great article. It’s cool to see SCC settings in the commercial.
