No Trash Pandas were Harmed
Fireworks exploded in at least one trash can in Shoreline College’s woods on the evening of July 11. The boom could be heard from the 7000 Campus Living dorms. Law enforcement conducted an “extensive search” for two potential culprits in the woods near the Greenwood parking lot. Residents of the dorms were advised to stay indoors until the search was called off at 11:47 p.m.
Gas Leaks in my salad?
A gas leak on campus the morning of August 26 triggered the evacuation of nine buildings. In the end, only the 2300 and 6000 buildings had their gas shut off after Puget Sound Energy sealed the leak.
Summer quarter had ended five days earlier, so students were not affected, though staff were—some having to telework while the gas was shut off.
Never-Ending Construction
The Main Gate and Exit-Only Gate were fully closed from July 22 to September 19 due to construction of a new sidewalk along the exterior of campus on Innis Arden Way. The two-month closure rerouted buses from campus and forced cars to detour to other gates, impacting both staff and students attending summer classes.
This construction didn’t go as originally planned. The gate reopening was first announced for August 15, then pushed to “to be announced.” The Innis Arden Sidewalk Project that caused these disruptions still isn’t finished—the sidewalk remains closed until construction resumes. The project is paused indefinitely, which might be good news for those not keen on any more campus disruptions.
Welcome back to campus, students and staff—here’s to a quieter fall quarter!
