Misty mornings, falling leaves, crisp air, and distinctive scents hail the arrival of autumn. This olfactory experience is an integral part of the season. In essence, fall is a time of transition, reflection, and natural beauty; inviting people to savor the changes in the environment and embrace the unique pleasures that each day brings.
As fall unfolds, it also heralds the approach of flu season. International students at Shoreline Community College under the LewerMark insurance plan are urged to stay informed about getting their flu shots conveniently and cost-effectively.
Yushin Wung, Assistant Director, International Student Service and Operations, provides valuable guidance for students seeking flu vaccinations. Most F-1 students at SCC utilize the LewerMark insurance plan, which operates under the Aetna network; therefore, any pharmacy or clinic accepting Aetna insurance would also honor LewerMark insurance. To streamline the vaccination process, Wung recommends using a search engine or the Vaccine Finder website to locate nearby pharmacies or clinics offering flu shots.
Here are some of the nearby locations where students can get flu shots*:
Safeway pharmacy (15332 Aurora Ave. N., 206-539-5500)
Walgreens ( 14510 Aurora Ave. N., 206-361-8826)
ICHS: Shoreline Clinic (16549 Aurora Ave. N., 206-533-2600)
The Everett Clinic (1201 N. 175th St., 206-401-3200)
Walgreens ( 17524 Aurora Ave. N., 206-542-4964)
Fred Meyer pharmacy (18325 Aurora Ave. N., 206-546-0753)
*Some pharmacies or clinics may require appointments for vaccinations.
LewerMark coverages and Where can I get my insurance ID card?
Wung reassures students that most clinics near Shoreline accept Aetna insurance, but each facility may have its own policies. To ensure accurate information, students are advised to check the clinic’s website or contact them directly by phone. If the clinic accepts insurance, the student is likely to incur no additional charges. The LewerMark insurance plan covers vaccines and immunizations under the “Wellness Benefit”, with a $300 annual limit. “So as long as the student has not already used up their Wellness Benefit on other services, then they shouldn’t have to pay anything additional,” said Wung.
International students can utilize their insurance by log in to their LewerMark account at www.lewermark.com/shoreline. “There is a Student Login button at the top. Students use their ctcLink ID as their username, and if they have never logged in before, they should use their birthdate as the password.” said Wung. “Once logged in, the website will ask the student to confirm their information. Then, please click the menu button and access the insurance card, which can be downloaded as a PDF.”
When visiting a clinic or pharmacy, students are advised to bring a copy of their insurance card, a photo ID (driver’s license, student ID, or passport), and a method of payment if the service requires payment.
As the flu season progresses, this guidance aims to empower international students to navigate the process smoothly, ensuring they prioritize their health and well-being during their academic journey at SCC.
