Rejoice, Hunters of Shoreline Community College! The wait is over. Today, we hunt together into the Forbidden Lands!

On Feb. 28, Monster Hunter Wilds dropped worldwide. In the 6th generation of Monster Hunter, players will venture into the forbidden lands with faces both new and familiar. With new dynamic, ever-changing environments, a story where every character feels included in an important manner, and monsters more fierce and powerful than the last, Monster Hunter Wilds is set up to be the magnum opus of this 20-year-old franchise.
With 14 different weapons to master, players can choose a weapon that fits their playstyle. These weapons include the quick, flashy dual blades, the brute, bludgeoning force of the hammer, the ranged powerhouse that is the bow, and my personal favorite: the ever-dynamic and stylish Switch axe. There is a playstyle for everyone!
Monster Hunter itself is like wine; the longer it ages, the better. When Monster Hunter 1 was released almost 21 years ago, the franchise only had 17 large monsters, a lack of quality-of-life mechanics, and questionable hitboxes (Plesioth, for those who know). Today, Monster Hunter as a whole holds 229 monsters. From the everpresent lord of the skies, Rathalos, to the world eater, Deviljho, and the king of the seas down in the ocean’s depth, Lagiacrus, there is no shortage of unique monsters!
The franchise itself is so popular that multiple companies made the launch day of its previous installment, Monster Hunter Rise, a holiday — so many people requested the day off to play it. For more information, this article from Gamesradar+ provides the perfect explanation.
And now as we dive into the Forbidden Lands, I can say for certain this is THE best Monster Hunter game to date. From the dynamic weather, improved combat, immersive world, and incredible story, everything about MH Wilds is a step up from its previous three successors, those being MH Rise, MH Worlds, and MH XX. I’ve played through the entirety of MH Worlds and all three open beta test periods of MH Wilds, and I will definitely be spending many more hours hunting to make myself a better hat! That being said, I hope this article has convinced at least one more person to join the hunt, and if so, happy hunting!
